The detailed objectives of the research are as follows, 1. To present the situation of fire fighters’ work values and job satisfaction; 2. To discuss the different background variables relating the work values and job satisfaction of fire fighters; 3. To analyze the relationship between work values and job satisfaction of fire fighters. To achieve the above purpose, the researcher distributes 750 questionnaires to Fire Service in Kaohsiung city, Kaohsiung county, and Ping-tung county. The return rate is 84.4%. Then 578 questionnaires were analysed. The conclusions of the study are as follows, 1. The fire fighters are mainly " intrinsic values " in work values, then " concomitant values " and " extrinsic values ". 2. The fire fighters feel "external appraisal satisfaction" in job satisfaction, then " mind satisfaction ", "organization satisfaction", "job trait satisfaction ", and " material satisfaction ". 3. The fire fighters that they are above 41 years old, married, office staff, and higher rank, get higher score in work values. 4. The fire fighters that they are office staff, higher rank , and in the unit of 8-14 persons, get higher score in job satisfaction. 5. The relationship between work values and job satisfaction of fire fighters is positive correlation. 6. The work values of fire fighters have positive effects on the job satisfaction,particularly in the extrinsic values. Based on the conclusions, the researcher also makes some suggestions the related institutions of human resources management, and further study. For government department's suggestion, there are as follows, (1) To give more encouragement and support; (2) To examine the fire-fighting service system; (3) To promote the establishment institution; and (4) To establish the fire fighter special-purpose personnel system. For further study, there are as follows, (1) To expand the research scope or area; (2) To apply other research techniques, such as interviews, case study.
