Narrative research on life difficulty and struggling experiences of undergraduates from low-income family

碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 輔導與諮商研究所 === 95 === The aim of the research is to understand and discuss life difficulty and impact of low-income family’s children through the narration about their life difficulty and struggling experiences, and to discover the important elements of their experiences in struggling against life difficulty. Three participants who were children of low-income families and undergraduate students are interviewed. Narrative research and Holistic-Content analysis are used in the research. The results of this research are summarized as followed. 1.When the participants’ families are in financial difficulty, the standard of their physical life is inferior to the normal standard of the society. The life difficulties of not having the same physical life as others or not having ability to purchase arouse their feeling of embarrassment. 2.The participants’ deep feeling of facing life difficulty is from the psychological impact. This means that they rather mind the identity of social welfare receiver. 3.The acceptance of the life difficulty in financial deficit means the acceptance of the stigma of receiving welfare allowance. 4.They accept the stigma in overcoming difficulty; besides, the deeper meaning is through the inner self-assertiveness on their effort and performance, they reach the state of overcoming psychological difficulty. According to the research findings, the implications for academy education, public organizations and counseling field and further research suggestions are made.
