PMS help business explicitly set its goal and vision. Using top-down annual objective deployment, PMS links individual’s performance to business’s goal. In this research, we study the adoption and implementation of a large semi-conductor packaging and testing company. We first review relevant literature and theories to gain an understanding of performance management theory and practice and establish the theoretical framework and research hypothesis of this study. We conducted a field survey at the subject company. The constructs of the survey are developed based on the five dimensions (project management, operations management, performance evaluation, employee development, education and training) of PMS. They are evaluated in terms of composite reliability and construct validity by using SPSS. The Cronbach’s alpha is greater than 0.7 and explanatory power is 63%, indicating the existence of internal consistence and adequate explanatory power. Analysis of the survey data indicates that: - Managers of all levels believe that implementation of the five dimensions of the PMS has positive impact on the organization’s performance. - The five dimensions of the PMS are highly correlated. We conducted further analysis of the company’s performance after the PMS adoption and found that the company’s revenue and gross margin are increasing during the last four years. This indicates that the adoption of PMS may have positive impact on the company’s performance.
