The value of nursing professionals depends on how the funda-mentals and the true meanings of the patient-nurse relationships are viewed. A positive and warm patient-nurse relationship would create a comfortable patient -nurse relationship and even reduce the fear, estrangement and tension caused by the health care system. This caring relationship of patient-nurse gives pati-ents great conform and encouragement. Most importantly, a helping -trusting relationship makes patients share decision making on maintaining, prevention and promotion self-health. Patient-nurse relationship has been an important issue over the past decades. Based on the feminist ethics of care theory of Nodding, the paper is to interpret patient-nurse relationships, to regain long-losing human caring and to achieve the provision of caring in health care settings. There are six chapters. Chapter one is Introduction, including background, motivation, purpose and significance of the research, research structure, goals and measures. The history of patient-nurse relationships will be reviewed mai -nly on the essence of caring theories in chapter two. Chapter Three focuses on Nel Noddidngs’ ethics of caring theory and Chapter Four states the found- ation of caring theories on the basis of nursing ethics. Feasible measures of reforming nursing professional ethics in healthcare settings are recommended in Chapter Five. The final chapter concludes that caring concepts lay the foundation of patient-nurse relationships in four aspects. Caring is the base of human care; caring is also the motivation to achieve good patient-nurse relationships. Moreover, caring is a measure to achieve the suc- cess of patient-nurse education and the moral standard of health care reform as well. Yuan-tse Lin 林遠澤 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 121 zh-TW
