Give Me a Hand—The Research About The Remedial Program Conducted by The Elementary Schools in Hualien County for Newly-Immigrated Children.

Abstract With the yearly increase of newly-immigrated women and their children in Taiwan, their children somehow have reached the stage of receiving compulsory education but they tend to have low achievement at school. Their family could not offer proper help for the children on school lesson; therefore, the role that school plays is relatively vital. Some related studies concerning the remedial program for the children are gradually drawing the attention. There are three purposes for this research: first, to discuss how the elementary schools in Hualien County act on the remedial program for the children; second, the satisfaction of the children attending the remedial program; third, as the reference for the remedial program in the aftermath. In the beginning, this study conducted a research aiming at the elementary schools which have the newly-immigrated children by sending out sixty-nine questionnaires for those in charge in elementary schools, forty-one of which in return reaching 100% availability rate. Meanwhile, sampling the children attending the remedial program from fourth to sixth grade; with the total questionnaires seven hundred and eighty-three, we have four hundred and ninety-two in return with 89.22% availability rate as a result. The findings of this study are as follows: 一、For the status quo: (一) The elementary schools in Hualien County conducting the remedial program have repeatedly applied for the financial aid. (二) The objects of the remedial program didn't totally center on the newly-immigrated children. (三) The teachers in the remedial program were mainly from the same schools; obviously, the schools didn't recruit teachers outside. (四) Building up complete remedial program system is the main subject for the future. 二、For the satisfaction: (一) The differences of the students' background didn't result in the discrepancy of their satisfaction; mothers with different citizenships didn't result in the discrepancy of the satisfaction. However, the differences of the grades influenced the satisfaction of the students toward the remedial program. (二) As a whole, students were satisfied with and reassured of the effect and practice of remedial program. Keyword：newly-immigrated children、conducting the remedial program、 the satisfaction
