Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立新竹教育大學 === 人資處造形藝術碩士專班 === 95 === Abstract “Transformation and Sublimation in Spirals –Theoretcail Analysis of Art Works by Chia-Chi Lo” the whole production uses my creative works from 2005 to 2007 as the subject, and traces back to some works in college, to penetrate an image with which I have always been concerned about the “experiences of life” and “listen and explore new feelings.” Life itself is a circle formed by layered spirals. It was always thought that one could be liberated without any cares, but in reality one is caught in the spiral filled with reluctance of letting go and emotional entanglements. In The Birth of Tragedy, Nietzsche mentioned that there are Apollo, the God of the Sun, and Dionysus, the God of Wine in human nature. They symbolize the duality and oppositional elements of rationality and sensibility. All thoughts and behaviors are rooted in the opposition, conflict, and harmony between the two. In the world and out of the world, rationality and sensibility continue to intersect and jostle with one another. The shape of spirals is a mystical form in nature. In terms of visual psychology, the shape of spirals conforms to the aesthetic totem deep in the human subconsciousness. Moreover, it has a sense of eternity, symbolizing the endless vitality of life. To sum up, the purposes of this creative work discourse are to: 1. explore the shape of spirals in terms of its concept and characteristics. 2. explore the symbolic meaning and true content of the Heaven Spiral, Earth Spiral, and Human Spiral. “Academic Theoretical Basis” organizes the creative context, which “learns from nature,” “the method of communication,” and “the journey into subconscious/dreams.” Ideas in Creation, deals with reflections on the shape of spirals as a concept with a form and as formless consciousness, which can be divided into internal psychological motivation and external forms of manifestation. Content of Creation explains that the spiral is a track toward the pursuit of perfect realization. Format of Creation parallels internal exploration and external seeking, and are mainly based on two-dimensional drawings. My creation works explicates the Heaven Spiral Series, Earth Spiral Series, and Human Spiral Series. The spiral is the past tense of contradictions and conflicts in human life, transformation is the present tense for self-evaluation, and sublimation is the future tense which takes oneself to unknown ideals. Keywords: spiral, transformation, sublimation
