Summary:碩士 === 國立新竹教育大學 === 教育心理與諮商研究所 === 95 === The Applicability of Using Standardized Personality Tests in Sieving Out High Risk Junior High School Students with Suicide or Self-mutilation Behaviors Abstract The main purpose of this study was to explore the possibilities of using standardized personality tests to preliminary sieve out high risk junior high school students with suicide or self-mutilation behaviors. A total of 1254 subjects were sampled from three junior high schools in Taoyuan. All subjects were asked to respond to the instruments of “Mood express experience questionnaire,” “New Lie’s Personality Inventory,” and “Basic Personality Inventory”. The obtained data were analyzed by chi-square test, t-test, and factor analysis. The main findings of this study are as follows: 1. The “Strain,” “Anxiety,” and “Depression” subscales of New Lie’s Personality Inventory could be important indices of preliminary sieving out high risk students with self-injury experience (including suicidal plans, suicide behaviors, and self-mutilation behaviors). 2. The “Depression” and “Deviation” subscales of Basic Personality Inventory could be important indices of preliminary sieving out high risk students with self-injury experience (including suicidal plans, suicide behaviors, and self-mutilation behaviors). 3. The “Social extraversion” subscale of New Lie’s Personality Inventory could be important index of differentiating students with self-mutilation experiences from those with suicide experiences. 4. There were 34 items of New Lie’s Personality Inventory, summarized as “Depressed sense,” “The meaning of life,” “Introversive,” “Panic sense,” and “Vigorousness” factors, could effectively differentiate students with suicide only from those with self-mutilation only. 5. There were 26 items of Basic Personality Inventory, summarized as “Senses of value,” “Physiological discomfort,” “Introversive,” and “Unreal senses” factors, could effectively differentiate students with suicide only from those with self-mutilation only. Finally, further discussion and suggestions were propsed for the school institutions and future research.
