ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between leisure activity participation and life satisfaction of elementary school teachers. The tools used in this research, which is originated and developed by the author, are the “Questionnaire for Leisure Activity Participation”and the “Questionnaire for Life Satisfaction”. Both tools are used for analyzing the diversity of both under different population statistics variables. The relationship between these two are discussed in this study.
By design, the study relies on four hundred and ten public elementary school teachers who are currently in service at Hsinchu City or Hsinchu County, by filling out questionnaires. These teachers are randomly selected in the means of random sampling and cluster sampling. The information from the sampling is analyzed by the computer statistics software,called SPSS. The include descriptive statistics, average differences budgetary estimates (also known as Multivariate Analysis of Variance, MANOVA), Canonical correlation and Stepwise Multiple Regression. The conclusions are:
1. The“Leisure Activity Participation”for the elementary school teachers is higher than average. Among seven types, the Participation in“Informative and Cultural”is the highest; and the Participation “Athletic and Exercises”is the lowest.
2. For these activities which the elementary school teachers are “Sensationally Participated Status”the top five are:listening to music,watching the news on TV ,chatting,playing with children and surfing the internet. The “Actual Average Participation”, can be seen on the table of leisure activity participation . The activities which these elementary school teachers have frequently, the top five are: watching the news on TV,surfing the internet, listening to music,chatting,E-mailing.
3.“Life Satisfaction”is higher than average.“Leisure Satisfaction”is the highest,“Job Satisfaction”is the lowest.
4. Gender, age, education background, salary and material status are the population statistics variables which differentiate participation of leisure activity for elementary school teachers. Serving in an administrative position, salary, marital status and health conditions are the population statistics variables which differentiate satisfaction at life.
5. Leisure activity participation shows a correlation with life satisfaction,
Leisure activity participation has positive effect on life satisfaction.
6. The results show 11% predictions for the leisure activity participation as to life satisfaction.
