It is the perennial rhizomatous tuber flower. With special spathe shape and various colors, it is very appreciated in the market. The color of its spathe is important for the ornamental value of Calla lily. There are numerous varieties Calla lily. There is diversified in color that goes across species. The object of this study is using pigment analysis to explore the color composition of different varieties of Calla lily. The research results have implications for breeding and for classification of new variety of Calla lily. The spathes of 22 different Calla lily, including yellow, grayed-orange, purple, red-purple and purple colors were collected and tested by pigment analysis. One result is that anthocyanins, carotenoids, and flavonols are observed in the 22 cultivars, but their pigment content is different. The colors exhibited by Calla lily are affected by its pigment composition, content and concentration. The yellow cultivars line has lower anthocyanin content. The purple and grayed-purple cultivar lines have higher anthocyanin content than the yellow one. Comparing the different tissue of spathes, the anthocyanin content of deep-color base tissue is higher than other spathes tissue, but there can be little difference in color within the cultivars. Delphinidin and cyanidin are the major components of anthocyanin in Calla lily (Zantedeschia spp.). Peonidin and pelargonidin are in the anthocyanin of some Calla lily. The Cyanidin content is relative high for anthocyanin, but its concentration changes in different parts of tissue of different cultivars. The pigment and anthocyanin components of spathes are inheritable, but inheritance may depend on cultivars. Kuang-Liang Huang Ph. D. 黃光亮 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 0 zh-TW |

There are numerous varieties Calla lily. There is diversified in color that goes across species. The research results have implications for breeding and for classification of new variety of Calla lily.
