The purpose of this study was to apply kinematic method to investigate the throwing technique of an elite woman hammer thrower, Huang Chih-Feng, and compare with the performances of foreign top athletes. The subject is who holds the national record in Taiwan. The cinematographs were taken at the process of the rotatory path by two high-speed cameras(60HZ) from the right and back sides. A 2-D kinematic analysis was made by Siliconcoach System, and focused on the variation of the techniques of four circle rotations and their influences on the result. Data included Rotatory time, height, release speed and angle.
The conclusions were as the follows:
1. The subject spent 2.65 seconds to complete the four rotations. Obviously, it took too much time, and it made the rotations not coherent. It caused the release velocity slower, and influenced the distance of the horizontal flight of the hammer.
2. The release height of the hammer was 1.88m, which was too high. And the release velocity was 24.16m/s, which appeared the release too hurried. Due to the above reasons, they caused the subject’s center of mass unstable and standing up ahead of time.
3. Comparisons are made between the subject and the top foreign women hammer throwers. Obvious differences are found that the subject spend longer time to complete the four rotations, and that her release velocity is slower than China’s athletes. Therefore, the subject got lower results.
