The pneumatic counterweight method is a suitable counterweight method used for machine tool. However, the cylinder force output must be controlled to reduce the disturbance force and to promote the precision of vertical positioning control for spindle feeding. For the reason, the purpose of this study was to analyze the Active Pneumatic Counterweight System on the basis of a mathematical model and the use of Self-tuning Fuzzy Controller (STFC) on servo pneumatic pressure control for cylinder force output.
