This study adopts digital terrain model(DTM) and utilizes the Triangular Prism Surface Area Method to measure the fractal dimension. Four different types of classification of the geological map in Taiwan are carried out in this study. Four topographical parameters including elevation, slope, relief and roughness are added in order to analyze the geology characteristics. The calculated fractal dimensions of different geological regions of Taiwan Island are list as following: 2.00000 ~ 2.00399 for Alluvium and terrace deposits in the western plains, 2.00138 ~ 2.02251 for Sedimentary rocks(conglomerate, limestone, sandstone and shale) in the western Foothills, 2.01016 ~ 2.02589 for Igneous rocks (andesite and basalt) in the Coast Range of eastern, 2.02011 ~ 2.03821 for Metamorphic rocks (slate, schist, gneiss and marble) in the Central Mountain Range. This study finds that the fractal dimension can reflect change of the elevation, slope, relief and roughness, and can be regarded as a useful parameter of describing the geological characteristics and judging the different rock classifications. In addition, all four parameters: elevation, slope, relief and roughness can have an influence on the fractal dimension to some extent. It is observed in this study that the fractal dimension is mainly affected by the slope and relief. Chein-Lee Wan 王建力 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 126 zh-TW
