Summary: | 碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 都市計劃學系碩博士班 === 95 === This study surveys the structural transition of the regional economy in Taiwan under the globalization tendency. The FDI status is used as the carrier for analyzing the globalization economic activities. The distribution of the FDI under different time series revealed how the global economic activities had influenced the spatial structure in Taiwan. Through the location statistic of foreign firms, we can analyze the role of local cities in the global economic activities.
The inward direct investment directory data from 1954 to 2003 used obtained from the Investment Commission, MOEA were used in this study. The analysis approaches used include descriptive statistics, Chi-Square test, and econometric model.
We detect that the evidence of the inward FDI in Taiwan was mainly influenced by the worldwide systemic factors. It revealed that the domestic policies and economic factors can’t explain the transformation of FDI inflows sufficiently. So that the inward FDI models with only the domestic factors may cause omitting Variable biases.
Moreover, the foreign firms demonstrate a single-core spatial structure with the polarization effect in the Taipei metropolitan. The result is deferent from the urban hierarchic system which appeared a dual-core or tri-core structure in the regional plann in Taiwan. Thus, while facing the global competition, it is necessary to revise the planning approach with the global competition factors.
