Since the age of Dutch`s colonization in 17th century, several seaboard Settlements located along there. For the past hundred years, the terrain and land form along the coastline have changed frequently and thus affected the morphology and the residential type in this area. Among all the coastal areas, I chose Sin-cuo-zih in Kaohsjung county as my main research subject. The residents of Sin-cuo-zih were forced to migrate and rebuild their village because of natural catamities. In terms of geographic and living conditions, Sin-cuo-zih developed a totally different morphology form other coastal settlements. Under the influence of whole overall arrangement, the residential type of Sin-cuo-zih presents types and developments. Through investigated, measured and collected the data to analysis and induce the configuration of the settlement and the transformation of residential facilities in Sin-cuo-zih. The context is divided into four parts: 1. The environmental factors and cultural background The development of the sin-cuo-zih is related to nature and human factor. By historical accounts and intervew people who live there understood the geographical relations of environment changes between Jockan, A-Gong-Dian streamand Sin-cuo-zih. Arranging the background of society and economy to understood about population, faith and industry. 2.The configuration of settlement The mechanism of the settlement including transportation lines, lane system of inside and outside street block, public facilities distribution and dwelling pattern. From the morphology and locality relation, it also reveals “grid-form” settlement space feature of Sin-cuo-zih. 3. Analysis of residential facilities The Settlement’s residential characteristic has almost changed. Analysis the distribution of residential type, scale, and the relationship between prototype and the settlement. 4.The transformation and constitute of residential type The dwellings in Sin-cuo-zih were traditional closed-yard house that were replaced by street-house later on. Because of the road constrution for developing, street-house with higher capacity was more popular by people.
