Summary: | 碩士 === 中興大學 === 農藝學系所 === 95 === This research aimed to study the efficiency of management for the organic rice cultivation in Taiwan. Literature review, interview with producers and consumers, and questionnaires are applied in this research. Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) was adapted for descriptive statistics, analysis of variance (ANOVA) , test of independence, and spearman correlation, to explore the efficiency of organic rice farm management in Taiwan. The results would serve as references for related institutions and policy making for government.
378 organic farmers were investigated by questionnaires, and 100 of them been replied and served as effective. The highest expense of production cost for organic rice is the cost of fertilizer, NT$43223 /ha/year. Most farmers are lack of professional technique to control diseases, pests, and weeds, and information for marketing, consulting and conductance by government and related institution are needed.
By comparison of this study, the expense of organic rice cultivation in fertilizer was three times higher than the conventional. However, Since its selling price was twice higher, the net profit of organic rice cultivation was reached NT$110,001/ha, which was almost five times higher than the conventional.
For consumers aspects, the marital status, age, education, family size and motivation are affecting the organic rice purchasing. The married consumers showed a better recognition for organic labeling than the single consumers. The 41~50 years old age group had the highest recognition and willingness to buy organic products. Consumers with lower education showed a lower interesting for organic food but consider buying it as the price of organic rice decreased. On the other hand, people with higher education preferred high quality organic rice. Consumers graduated from above senior high school had a higher preference for organic rice. Smaller families with less economic burdens also had a higher preference for organic rice. What consumers valued most for organic rice are being pollution-free, high quality, reasonable price, safety and healthy.
The efficiency of management for organic rice production was better than the conventional not only higher net profit, but also the benefit for ecological diversity and soil and natural resources preservation , thus provides healthy and safety food for people. It is suggested that the government should pay more attention and efforts for the extension of organic production.
