Description
Summary:碩士 === 明志科技大學 === 工業管理研究所 === 95 === Medication safety for the elderly is quite important in medical care. Studies indicate that information and compliance of medication have significant effect on medication safety. This thesis is therefore aimed to investigate the information content and perception of medication for the elderly to provide practical advises for enhancing medication information design. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with thirty-two elder interviewees in the Taipei metropolitan area for their long-term medication uses. The results show that the sources of medication information for the elderly are mainly from their physicians and then from the prescription bags, the pharmacists, and the nurses. The results also indicate that, for medication information, the elderly demonstrate better understandings in the function, the dosage and the administration aspect of medication use. On the contrary, the notice and warnings, the drug interaction, the storage method, the primary functions, and the side effects of medication are poorly perceived. According to this research, suggestions are: For medication safety, the elderly should not rely only on their own experiences for the medication use they are not sure. Instead, they should consult with medical professionals. In regard to information urgency, the perception of the notice and warnings of medication should be enhanced. In order to enhance elder people’s knowledge on information of medication and to reduce inappropriate medication behaviors, it is also important for the health-care systems and professionals to educate the elderly to read the prescription bag before taking medicines.
