A cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted. The criteria of sampling were those who were diagnosed as chronic schizophrenia and affective disorders by psychiatric doctors. A total of 80 subjects were recruited with purposive sampling in southern Taiwan. Structured questionnaires were used to interview with the subjects, and questionnaires were included (1) demographic data, (2) Psychotic Symptoms Scale, (3) Social Support Scale, and (4) Work Adjustment Scale. The statistical analysis methods included descriptive statistics; t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regressions ere used in this study. The results of this study revealed that:Firstly, subjects’ psychotic symptom was rating, a small variant from asymptomatic to the mild grade. The most common psychotic symptoms were “worrying and bothering about something” and “inexplicable fear or scare”. The major negative symptoms were “apathy” and “poor activities” by contrast the positive symptoms about “hallucination” and “delusion”. Secondly, the subjects perceived higher to medium level of social support from families, relatives and health professionals. However, they perceived medium to lower level of social support from work colleagues. Thirdly, the average score of the work adjustment was 70.1 on the chronic mental patients indicating their work adjustment was at medium level. Factor analysis revealed five dimensions of the work adjustment scale which were “frustration”, “confidence”, “satisfaction”, ”the sense of security”, and “self accomplishment”. Fourthly, a positive relationship was found significantly between the social support and work adjustment, whenever the subjects’ perceived the higher of social support, the better the work adjustment. Finally, the significant predictors on work adjustment were positive appraisal support form the directors at work place and the emotional support form the family, thus account of 20% of total variation. Results indicated that the higher of positively appraisal support form the directors and the emotional support from the family, the better the work adjustment. The results of this study provide in-depth information for the government to amend employment policy on the chronic mental patients. The mental health professionals’community needs to be aware of the working adjustment that chronic mental patients might be encountered in order to increase their adjustment abilities. none 何美瑤 2006 學位論文 ; thesis 134 zh-TW
