Instead of using pure words, designers can combine image, animation, and sound effects into a multimedia. In additional, the Internet book shop is one of the substantial print media approaches though it is popular day by day. It is expecting to create a whole new business model if the publisher can manage this stage. For instance, the document of publications can be transformed into electronic file (XML, PDF, Word, etc.) that had done by designers in the beginning of publishing stages. You can publish and make it a publication with customized character by the laser printer, digital photocopier or printing machine. Furthermore, there is no need to store up lots of publications to waste money and increase the capitalized cost. Thus, it can promote the concept of environmental protection too. In the mean time, it can achieve the goal of zero stock and increase the economic benefits. This research has explored the concept of Print on Demand (POD) in terms of professional model, technology, and consumer needs. After further interviews, this research has shown the following results: 1. the business and management model of POD is different from the traditional publisher based on the information technology; 2. the transformation of publisher-oriented business model to consumer-oriented business model in publishing industry; 3. the change of publishing resources; 4. the authorization of the copyright; 5. the characteristics on market of diversification and small quantity publication; and 6. providing the estimate of the economic benefits. This research also surveyed the consumer attitude and needs to POD books through questionnaire survey. POD books have matched the need of consumers according to the survey result. The result has shown that the POD books make no significant difference among the variables of age, sex, and the degree of education. But the survey result has shown the significant difference to consumers who has the background of design. And it also shows significant difference between the layout design and the consumer cognition. Eventually, the designer and the publisher can take the advantage of ADSL to combine the POD management and the logistic system.
