| Summary: | 碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 應用中國文學系碩士班 === 95 === “Lin Lan Xiang” is a secular novel which is storied by domesticity. Tragic destiny of female is mostly concerned in the novel. The way the writer named it “Lin Lan Xiang” is just like “Ch -in-ping-mei”: three words come form three different woman. “Lin” means “Lin Yun Ping”, “Lan” means “Yan Meng Ching” , “Xiang” means “Ren Xiang Er”. The middle word “Lan” points out “Yan Meng Ching” is the main character of the novel and apparently indexes the contents are the stories which happened around “Yan Meng Ching”.
The stories are about the marriage life between one husband with one wife and few concubines. This disquisition chiefly discusses how a woman finds herself the law to live under this kind of marriage institution.
There are six paragraphs in the disquisition. The first paragraph is introduction. It shows the motivation, instrument and procedure of the research. Then according to scholars’ experiences and comments, examine different aspects of past researches of “Lin Lan Xiang”. This disquisition will focuses on few coverage which are not been questioned and fertilizes the aspects of the study.
The postgraduate introduces the origin and meaning of the title and basic information of the author in second paragraph. The time of creation and the research of edition can also be fond in second paragraph. In addition, the postgraduate indicates synopsis of the novel to make readers easily to understand the story.
The third paragraph is about main characters, include deeply describe one wife and five concubines’ personalities and analyze the multiplicity of women which displayed in the novel.
Laws of how these women live can be seen in fourth paragraph. Analyze the relationship between women whom come from different background and level. In the novel, most women like and respect each other, they abide by their responsibility and do the household together. This is one of main reasons too maintain their family peaceful and joyful and also be the source to discuss another level.
The fifth paragraph is focus on writing skill of female characters. About depictions of female characters, the postgraduate would like to begin with how the characters named and describe their mental situation. Anatomize the writing skill with artistic angle to display the artistic achievement of “Lin Lan Xiang”.
The sixth paragraph is the finality which includes the conclusion of last five paragraphs and expresses the limit of this research. Also includes discoveries and accomplishment of this research.
Although the female characters in the novel are obligated by traditional manners, but according to their imageries and life experiences, we found that they struggle between the demands in their hearts and the facts they have to confront.
