Description
Summary:碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 設計創作研究所碩士班 === 95 === The purpose of this study is to apply the rendering approach of stream of consciousness in modern novel to creation of picture books. Adopting anxious emotions as the theme of the picture book, it attempts to help readers experience the irrational state of anxiety and develop better ability to manage their emotions. In terms of research method, it employs the literature review method to explore four major directions: picture-book-related literatures, stream of consciousness and stream of consciousness novels, stream-of-consciousness-related rendering styles, and anxieties. In terms of creative practice, it utilizes the characteristics and skills of the rendering approach of stream of consciousness identified through literature review in picture book creation in association with related visual rendering approaches. The concept of creation originates from the irrational ideas of anxiety caused by hectic life of modern schedule. Anxieties often haunt us and compromise the quality of our lives. If we can identify the irrational ideas we entertain through experiencing bouts of anxieties, out lives will be more stable. The creation steps are as follows: Script of the story→ concept development→ screen-by-screen pictures→ sketches→ coloring. During the creation, the characteristics and skills of the rendering approach of stream of consciousness is materialized and applied to creation of the script of the story and production of the picture book. Through literature review and creation practice, this study arrives at the following conclusions: (1) The style of the images created via transformation of the rendering approach of stream of consciousness is that of expressionism, and montage. (2) When applying the rendering approach of stream of consciousness to picture books, we can save the words of the descriptive screens and express them through the pictures – in which verbal descriptions and images supplement each other. (3) Due to the fact that the primary purpose of stream-of-consciousness novels is to describe the mental state of man, picture books based on the rendering approach of stream of consciousness are appropriate for psychological themes.
