Ms. Xiu-ya, Zhang had been closely connected with literature since her maiden production ”Along The Dai-lung River Bank” came out. She not only searched the inspiration both in the Mainland and Taiwan, but also brought readers a diverse of works in a form of prose, novels, neo-poetry, theoretic books, and translation collection. Ms. Zhang was known as a “whole-dimension writer”, and surly she was. Since she was such a great writer, it is worthwhile to deeply explore the meaning and value of her works after she died.
The main discussion of this paper will focus on Zhang’s novels, so as to compensate for the lack of present research in this aspect. Analysis will be divided into two facets, “Ms. Zhang herself” and “her novels.” In the first two chapters, Ms. Zhang’s lifelong experiences will be thoroughly interpreted, in a bid to figure out how her nurtured character influenced her writing style. The third chapter reveals how she started with writing novels, separates her works, based on the published set of ten novels, into “literary period,” “religion period,” and “individual period,” in order to deduce her writing features during each period. The next two chapters draw a long profile of Ms. Zhang’s novels from the angles of subjects as well as techniques.
Ms. Zhang said,” In recent years, I deliberately depicted life triviality. I did not mean to avoid critical issues, but manifested the eternal truth from the daily trivia.” This paper pays attention to her unique writing manner and finds out “love” is usually subjected in most of her novels. However, to Ms. Zhang, love is more than affections between men and women. In this paper, her love for country, religion and between humans will be respectfully discussed. Her writing techniques, such as plotting, depiction and word choosing, are also closely evaluated to explain why her novels draw readers’ attention.
The concluding chapter consists of research results, reflections and prospects, which provides summarization of above research, outlines future developments and ascertains the modern meaning of Ms. Zhang’s novels,
