Therefore, the events caused by harmonics may result in the interruption of production even the industry safety. The passive power filters and active power filters were used to solve the problems of harmonic conventionally. However, they still have some disadvantages. In order to solve the disadvantages of active power filters and passive power filters, the hybrid power filter combined by an active power filter and a passive power filter was developed. The hybrid power filter can suppress harmonics effectively. Moreover, the capacity of the power converter used in the hybrid power filter is smaller than that used in the active power filter. Hence, the cost of hybrid power filter is more competitive than that of active power filter. In this paper, a novel power converter topology for hybrid power filters is proposed. The salient feature of the proposed power converter topology is that it can save two power electronic switches as compared with the conventional full bridge power converter topology. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed power converter topology for the hybrid power filter, a single-phase hybrid power filter, a three-phase hybrid power filter and a three-phase four-wire hybrid power filter are developed and tested.
