IBM support community of open source software. Microsoft agrees that Linux is biggest competition. The methodology of OSS development that based on community is a focal point. While OSS attracted much attention in the field of software development, statistics shows that most projects were failed. In Sourceforge, 80% projects were stopped or could not to proceed. Thus, it is an important topic to understand what factors would influence project success. Based on the theory of social movement, social capital, technology acceptance model and project reputation, this research discuss the influence of license type, project performance, user interest, social network embeddedness and sponsorship on project performance. To further investigate the causal effect of variables, a longitudinal design was conducted to collect data at different time. Data are collected using a Web spider to retrieve pages from SourceForge for each project at Time 1 and Time2. Samples of this research were projects which were developed with java language. There are 14843 useful observations. Further purification filtered out incomplete data as well as outliners, which results in 2242 valid data. Finding of this research suggests: 1. Service quality, sponsor, project performance and project reputation positively influence user interest. 2. Social embeddedness and user interest positively influence project performance. 3. Project reputation significantly influences social network embeddedness. Jen-Ruei Fu 傅振瑞 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 82 zh-TW
