This research concerns about synthesizing a polyaniline polymerized at meta position (m-pani) to retain the proton conductivity only. To improve its proton conductivity, the polymerization conditions including changed the monomer species. The trends for each factor found out and the optimum polymerization conditions of m-pani have been estemblished.. Due to its good chemical stability, film-fabricated ability and low cost, PU was chosen to be the matrix of the m-pani membranes. The results illustrate that conductivity of the m-pani synthesized directly from aniline is better than the m-pani synthesized from m-toluidine. Since the m-pani substrate is hydrophobic, the film can withstand solvent swelling and can preserve the membrane dimensions even in high methanol concentration (methanol crossover).
