Problems such as the mad cow disease, disease-causing bacteria found in spinach, and dead pig have surfaced and they have reduced the consumers’ confidence. Governments are reviewing the food related regulations while requiring food product source management and the production identification design of the tracing system. In addition, they are proactively setting up early warning systems and constructing the emergency protocols to increase the reaction speed and prevention. Since the product cycle of food items include the production, supply chain, and consumer reaching, the agriculture production ID system is vital and should clearly state the product’s production and supply chain information. It’s important for agriculture products to be “good taste, fresh, and safe” and be on the market in a timely manner. Therefore, it’s vital to build a comprehensive production, supply, tracking, and tracing system together. To build a comprehensive food management system, it’s important to use technology that allows us to quickly and correctly find out the necessary information. It’s an important task for the government to make that happen in the shortest time. From the past information management researches, we found that the use of information technology provides us the best results while maintaining the lowest cost. The use of RFID has become prevalent and as a result, many domestic and international businesses are starting to apply this technology in the supply chain businesses. Comparing to the positive impacts RFID has made on electronic businesses and the supply chains management, the use of RFID on ensuring food safety in our nation still seems to be undeveloped. Many industries have done researches on the topic of RFID implementation, but their conclusions do not necessary fit the area of food safety management. From the managerial standpoint, it’s necessary to discuss the application of RFID technology centered on the topic of food safety. This thesis is aimed to analyze the feasibility of applying RFID into the food production and supply chain management. In bringing up such topic in the management application, we hope to attract MIS﹙management information system﹚managers to corporate with us to further research in this topic.
