Troubles usual come from the tiny characteristic of the product, and we can only find them out by our attention to the interaction between user and product. If the interface of powerful product do not have well been designed to guild user’s operation, it will reduce product’s usability and value. Good design should look back upon the original problem of product design: how to design product working well under human’s operation. In this research, we analysis the product affordance characteristic under peration. We choose three different kind of laser printer (individual, studio, and organization) to analysis usability problem of their interface. Through the usability test, we find out user has remarkable difference in starting machine, changing toner cartridge, and particular printing task. There has no remarkable difference in SUS and Nasa-TLX Questionnaire. In order to go a step further to analysis user’s mental image processing, we choose HP LaserJet4250-dtn, the higher usability laser printer in three sample printers for further test. In second experiment progress, we take users’ verbal report using image schemata concept to analysis users’ mental image progress to know how the affordance of form affect user’s operation. We discover that users are guided by the bottom size and icon’s visibility in starting machine assignment. In changing toner cartridge assignment, users are guided by the two sides of bulge shape, and inner arrow icon’s visibility. In particular printing task assignment, users are guided by the color contrast, size of the paper scale, and joint of the grip. In changing particular size of paper assignment, users are guided by the arc indentation, color contrast, and the size of papers. In paper jam clear assignment, users are guided by the two sides of bulge shape, upper fillister, cartridge shape, and route of printing. This research attempts using usability test and verbal report analysis to analysis users’ mental image in operating assignment. The result of research could be as reference for interface design and interaction research.
