碩士 === 華梵大學 === 哲學系碩士班 === 96 === The purpose of my research raises the issues of the copyright on the Internet in the digital age. The rising problem that what use can the file sharing Internet user make of the software and of copyrighted materials (such as video and audio compression technology) has no answer at this time, as there has been almost no positive decision-making on the subject. The Internet has a high information value of file sharing. However, according to A Theory of Justice by John Rawls, my research criticizes opponents of the copyright on the Internet whose point is founded on the principle of utility. The widespread of high-speed file sharing causes losses to the authors on the Internet. According to Rawls’ difference principle, They are to be of the greatest benefit to the least-advantaged group. My research has taken both sides into account, i.e. encouraging authors to create new works and enriching the public domain. My point of view is that the difference principle can play an fundamental part in finding a balanced solution to protect the copyright on the Internet and make full use of the Internet at the same time.
