Summary: | 碩士 === 華梵大學 === 哲學系碩士班 === 96 === A central theory of the Zhiyi masters is the concept of the Three Truths of the Complete Interception (yuan-rong-san-di 圓融三諦). Furthermore, Zhiyi’s idea of the Three Truth is derived from various Buddhist’s argument. In Zhiyi’s idea of the Threefold Truth, Zhiyi annotate explanatory note of the 18th verse of the Examination of the Noble Truths from chapter 24th in the Knowledge of the Middle Way that Nagarjuna writes. It presents that exactly the basic structure of Zhiyi’s idea of the Threefold Truth. And Tiantai school calls this verse as the Three Truths of verse(san- di- jin三諦偈).Under the same framework, Nagarjuna and Zhiyi both emphasized the basic common position that whatever is dependent arising, that is emptiness. However, in the further discussion, the argumentation of Nagarjuna and Zhiyi, it still represents difference between ' the Two Truths ' and ' the Three Truths '. In the Zhiyi’s idea of the Threefold Truth,he emphasized the thinking of the Complete Interception. And such characteristics of argumentation is corresponding to Zhiyi 's own background. In an era of Zhiyi, there are various types of translations of Sutras and discussions on various topics on Buddhism in China. In accordance with describing in these different understanding, it also develops various schisms. Besides, each schism has quoted various scriptures to justify their position. And one's own position is the same orthodox statement to Buddha. As the discussion described above, Zhiyi must consider of which kind of teaching method can represent Buddha's real statement. When Zhiyi bumps into this question, he hopes to combine all kinds of arguments in Buddhism into identified and unified one. Depending on this demands, Zhiyi has combined Provisional Positing, Emptiness and the Mean (kong空jia假zhong中)into the argumentative way of the Three Truth. In such argumentation, Zhiyi has further noticed the dialectical relation among Provisional Positing, Emptiness and the Mean. In this way , Zhiyi develops a hemeneutic method while facing various religious doctrines of Buddhism. By this way, Zhiyi merges the interconnected systems of religious doctrine of differences into whole an enormous understanding.
