The questionnaire survey was used by the instrument called “The Questionnaire of Influencing the Factors of How Elementary School Principals Selected Administrative Deans.” There were three parts in the questionnaire, including personal information, the survey on the factors influencing how principals selected deans and the survey of the current situation of how principals performed the selection. This study surveyed 952 principals in Taiwan; valid data were 747, which was 78.5% of all the study. The data were analyzed by Average,Standard Deviation,Percent,T-test,one-way ANOVA. First of all, the study explored the factors influencing how elementary school principals selected administrative deans. Second, the study focused on the differences among the factors influencing how elementary school principals selected administrative deans with different variables. Last, open questions were proposed to collect information on the current situations and the causes of how principals made their decisions. The study came to the following discovery: 1. Male principals were more than female ones, with the ratio of 2.8:1. 2. Administrative deans’ professional competence was the most influential factor when principals selected administrative deans. 3. On the dimension of “Factors of Personal Background of Deans,” the willingness played the most significant role when principals performed the selection. 4. On the dimension of “Professional Competence of Deans,” interpersonal skills scored the highest. 5. On the dimension of “External Interference,” school climate had the strongest influence on the decision made by the principals. 6. Significant differences revealed with the variable of gender on the dimension of professional competence. 7. Significant differences revealed with the variable of working years on the dimension of personal background. 8. Significant differences revealed with the variable of working years on the dimension of external interference. 9. Significant differences revealed with the variable of size of the school on the dimension of personal background. 10. Significant differences revealed with the variable of size of the school on the dimension of external inference. The study proposed suggestions for teaching training organizations, educational administrative organizations, administrative deans and future studies according to the outcomes of the study.
