Second, illustrating the influence of globalization and that of traditional values—Confucianism—in Chinese society is another goal of this paper. This study used questionnaire as its research instrument. There were totally two hundred and fifty questionnaires given to the collage students in Fu Jen Catholic and Tamkung University. Their preferences on communication strategies in different situations were measured and analyzed by the method SPSS (Statistics Package of Social Science). The results indicate that Taiwan university students prefer to use the communication strategies—others’ feeling, avoid imposition on others, and prevent negative evaluation from others—that are closely related to Confucian values. Without the influence of purposes of communication and that of social status, students communicate in a way that is considered appropriate in Confucian society. Regarding to the influence of purposes of communication and that social status, students in Taiwan use different strategies during communication when they have different purposes or status relationship with their hearer. The results show that both of modernization (purposes) and traditional values (social status) have their influence on students in Taiwan. Besides, the fine division within ingroup members in Chinese culture is also found in this research. Ai-Ling Wang 王藹玲 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 112 en_US |
