Summary: | 碩士 === 逢甲大學 === 通訊工程所 === 95 === This thesis will focus on the study and design of voltage-controlled oscillators, which are often integrated in phase-locked loops. Furthermore, the cause of phase noise and its improvement methods were also discussed. The goal of this thesis is to achieve low phase noise, low power consumption and wide tuning range. In this thesis, it proposes the voltage controlled oscillator VCO-IV witch is adapted to be used in the MultiBand OFDM Alliance (MBOA), Ultra WideBand Grou1 to Group2.
VCO-IV uses cross-coupled pair topology, and changes the tank circuit by using the switch. The oscillator frequency is from 3.278 GHz to 4.328 GHz as the switch is on, and the phase noise in the frequency ranges is from -104.778 dBc/Hz to -108.487dBc/Hz.
When switch is off, the oscillator frequency is from 4.340 GHz to 6.885GHz and the phase noise in the frequency ranges is from -95.992 dBc/Hz to -102.583 dBc/Hz.
About the process consideration, the SiGe BiCMOS process is chosen, which combines both advantages of BJT and CMOS. It has the characteristics of high frequency capability, low manufacturing cost, and high circuit integration…etc. Therefore, the design of UWB VCO will be implemented by TSMC 0.35um 3P3M SiGe BiCMOS process in this thesis.
