Description
Summary:碩士 === 逢甲大學 === 國際貿易所 === 95 === The paper attempts to examine Taiwan’s and Panama’s FTA with major a trading partners using an econometric gravity model. Over the last two decades, the East Asian economies have substantially liberalized foreign trade and direct investment (FDI) regimes within the frameworks of GATT/WTO and APEC. The resulting expansion of trade and FDI has become the engine of economic growth and development in East Asia1. The Uruguay Round Agreements and the creation of the WTO have strengthened the multilateral trading system. At the same time, however, there has also been a proliferation of free trade agreements (FTAs) in the world economy. The Free Trade Agreement between Taiwan and Panama officially entered into force on 1st of January, 2004. . In this empirical study we use a gravity model for import and export flows to quantify the trade effects of the Taiwan-Panama FTA. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the impact of the FTA on GDP, distance and others dummy variables as well as language.
