In Taiwan, this kind of situation is especially serious in Yunlin coastal areas. While recently, it is constantly inflicted by the extreme rainfall event. Yunlin area must be flooded when heavy raining. Flooding, backward flow of seawater, seawater intrusion and soil salinization due to land subsidence are very common situation in the southwest coast of Taiwan. The coastal areas in Yunlin have divided into serious surface subsidence area, national territory restoration area and southwest coast national scenic area. Therefore, how to transform many inferior positions in Yunlin coastal areas in the present into the usable advantageous positions is an important topic for national territory restoration. Water quality improvement at coastal wetlands and removal efficiency of pollution are worth studying issues in national territory restoration. In this investigation, Screening-Level Model is the simulator of quality. According to the wetland background and inlet concentration of pollution, it simulates the removal efficiency. This study discusses the removal efficiency of pollution in the detention pond during the flooding and the effect of effluent which from free water surface wetland to detention pond in the dry day. During the flooding, model simulation show the results that the detention pond can remove SS about 60%, BOD and TN about 20~30%. The operation strategy in the dry day should make effluent stay with the free water surface wetland and the ecological pond to decay the concentration.
