碩士 === 大葉大學 === 造形藝術學系碩士班 === 95 === ABSTRACT
The Taiwanese religious works of art which were derived from Taiwanese traditional beliefs were multiple and abundant especially the clay sculptures of gods. The history of clay sculptures covered the cultural background and styles which could be passed down and traced back, so they deserved to be carefully explored and researched.
The traditional art of clay sculptures import into Taiwan from Fuzhou in the early Japanese Colonial Period. That time the Fuzhou clay sculptors came to Taiwan through the strait and dedicated themselves to making clay sculptures and left delicate and vivid works of clay sculptures in Taiwan. The traditional materials and techniques Fuzhou sculptors used included mold structures, paint techniques, metal techniques, glass techniques, and other levels of techniques. This paper was mainly aimed at the clay sculptures of Chuan-Hau Hall at Lion’s Head Mountain in Mau-Li County. It discusses the age of clay sculptures, the record of repairs, the disposition of spaces, the display of forms, the mode of styles, the methods of production, and the characteristic of techniques for Fuzhou clay sculptures.
Through interviews with clay sculptors and analysis of field researches, this paper observed, recorded, and portrayed the styles of the traditional Fuzhou clay sculptures remaining the forms, styles, and features in Taiwan.
