The basic purpose of this Report is to use the world scientific and practical experience to develop ways of improvement of corporate management efficiency in Russian oil companies.
This Report reviews economic theories of vertical integration and the empirical literature which explain the incidence of vertical integration in practice. Neoclassical theories are discussed first. Organizational theories of vertical integration are discussed next.
Traditional approaches of logic and comparative analysis along with system-structural analysis allow to Author to examine the basic tendencies between development of oil market in globalization and changes of companies’ organizational structures through framework of vertical integration analysis. The Author aspires by using system-structural analysis to consider the structure of any company in unity of all divisions which are inextricably related with environment.
A broad related literature review was made to build the framework of the study. Special attention is paid to VIOC’s possibilities for utilizing innovation and organizational advantages, while participating in oil extracting, processing, delivering and sales.
As a result of analyzing many researches of corporate management in Russian and foreign oil companies, the Author offers alternative methods of management improvement: development of information technologies, separation between top-management and Shareholders, orientation on long-term strategy, use of vertical integration, and development by creation image in social community.
Theoretical summarizing and conclusions of the Report can be applied in decision-making by oil companies for planning its business in Russia and abroad.
