This report presents the comparison between theoretical analysis and numerical simulation for oscillator design including op amp. First, we use Barkhousen criteria to interpret the Wien-bridge oscillator including idea op amp. We study the reason why the idea op amp can not be used to interpret the Colpitts oscillator if we follow the same procedures for Wien-bridge oscillator. Second, we interpret the op amp oscillator by the concept of RLC parallel circuit. In time-domain RLC circuit it would be more clear to understand the increasing or decreasing of the oscillation amplitude. Finally, we added diode circuit to control the oscillation amplitude. Many numerical simulations by the circuit simulator TINA have been studied to verify the validity of our theoretical analysis.
