Subjects were recruited by a cross-sectional survey from Nantou County community hospital. Structured questionnaire was used to collect data. Of 90 survey distributed, 89 valid (98.9%) were analyzed. The result show that most of the subjects were female (98.9%) , and the rang of age was from 26 to 31. The education background was above the junior college (91.0%) , and the mean working year are 6.0±4.5 years. Less then 61.8% of subjects worked in the emergency-critical department. Nearly niety percent (89.9%) of subjects have ever received cardiac-pulmonary resuscitation tanning, the mean working caring for transferring patients are 3.9±3.7 years. More then one-quarter (27.0%) of subjects frequency for working caring transferring patients are 1-3 times per week or less then 10 time in one year. Most of the subjects (58.4%) the reasons for caring transferring patients were increasing income or helping patient. The correct response rat in the knowledge of caring for transferring patients was 32.6% to 91.0%. Health problem assessment was the behavior most frequently performed in the nursing staff caring for transferring patients. Sex and working year transferring patients had no significant difference in the knowledge and practice of transferring patients. The nursing staff’s knowledge and behavior were related to the age, education background, working department, working year, emergency tanning, working reason and frequency for transferring patients (p<.05) . There was a positive correlation between knowledge and practice of caring for transferring patients. In conclusion, achievement of successful and safe transferal was based on enlistment of qualified nursing staff, continuous training and update, development of standard procedures with quality control, and augmentation of suitable ambulance apparatus.
