Summary:碩士 === 長榮大學 === 翻譯研究所 === 95 === This thesis discusses what the author has learned from the process of translating the book “The Accidental Asian: Notes of a Native Speaker”, by applying the translation techniques to a book written by an author with multicultural background. This thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter I provides the background of the book and the motive and purpose of this study. Chapter II introduces book''s author and its content and discusses the translation process from advance preparation, actual translating and proofreading. Chapter III is the translation of“The Accidental Asian: Notes of a Native Speaker.” Chapter IV, the main body of the thesis, discusses various translation techniques used and background knowledge required for the task; it also discusses what this author has learned by comparing translated versions of her own and others. Chapter V concludes with a summary of this authors experience in translating this book and suggestions on the basis of her experience in translating the book.
