Using heterocyclic aromatic 3,4-dialdehyde compounds as starting materials, we successfully employed an elongation cycloaromatization strategy developed in our group to achieve these structures. In addition, ortho-dibenzoyl acenes are used as starting materials to synthesize naphtho[c]thiophene and naphtho[c]pyrrole derivatives. The fundamental photophysical and electrochemical properties of these new compounds are measured. Their potential applications in optoelecrical devices are also discussed.
