Besides sending and receiving information, it has also become a new platform for people to post their ideas and creations through websites. Inside cyberspace, a personal website is the most important part of the combination. It consists such as self promotion, display of styles and interactions of common interests. This study uses 105 personal websites of Taiwanese design artists as research sample. A qualitative analysis was performed, using content analysis according to the different styles of websites and different genders of the designers, to compare the websites’ overall styles with self images that the websites are trying to present through its contents, and the differences of visual elements utilization. The main purpose is hoping to obtain an overall comprehension of Taiwanese design artists’ personal websites by understanding the state of play of Taiwanese design artists; thus, providing references for researchers and designers who plans to create their own personal websites. The results of the analysis are as followed: 1. This study divides design artists’ personal websites into 5 styles such as “Design Arts”, “Image & Portrait”, “Cartoon”, “Popular Culture” and “Lyric Realism”. 2. “Design Arts” emphasizes on the overall visual beauty and “Image & Portrait” mainly uses genuine images. While “Cartoon” displays contents imitating children’s state of mind or imagination where “Popular Culture” usually bestows a certain quality of consumer culture. Lastly, “Lyric Realism” uses atmosphere of different scenes to set off emotions as way of describing. 3. Most websites use stilled homepages as openings, among them “Image & Portrait” has the highest ratio of using stilled homepages. 4. Male websites tend to use monochrome while female websites tend to use warm colors. “Design Arts” and “Image & Portrait” mainly uses monochrome while “Cartoon”, “Popular Culture” and “Lyric Realism” tend to use warm colors. 5. Bright tone is the most commonly used by most websites while dark tone is not as preferred. “Design Arts” and “Popular Culture” uses bright tone the most; “Image & Portrait” uses dull tones the most; “Cartoon” and “Lyric Realism” use pastel tone the most. Over half of the female websites uses pastel tones where male websites are spread evenly over bright and dull tones. 6. Centerizing the pages of the websites is the most preferred allocation for most design artists. 7. Using “words” to express the navigation bar of websites is the most common way. Only “Cartoon” spread evenly on “words” and “words + images”. 8. The overall display of most websites are “stilled”, but “Design Arts”, “Cartoon” and “Popular Culture” tend to spread evenly on “stilled” and “stilled + dynamic”. 9. Usage of sound and effects is not as common for design artists’ personal websites. On the whole, males are more skilled at using sounds and effects on their websites. Also, most websites only use “single color” for their background and “repeating images” is the least commonly used. 10. 76% of the design artists choose to show a “professional image” on their websites, and most design artists choose to use nicknames instead of revealing their real names. 11. Females are more conservative and protective when it comes to privacy and most males are happy to reveal their views and philosophies on life. Also, most males concerns about how their self image are exhibited on the websites. 12. Males design artists are more focused on the feedback mechanism; however, less enthusiastic than females when it comes to responding. Sheng-Min Hsieh 謝省民 2006 學位論文 ; thesis 180 zh-TW |
