Summary: | 碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 工業設計系碩士班 === 94 === This research investigated text-recognition of health-food packages for elderly people. In our preliminary study, it found out the effective factors about text-recognizing of the
health-food packages. On the meantime, it designed experiments that were based on the
preliminary results. There were two major sections in our experiments: 1. four elderly people sieved out the effective factors; 2. proceeded the further study. This research grouped four surface-coating types: Matte PP Coating, Varnish Coating, Poly Propylene Coating, and Ultra Violet Coating types. The text-sizes were divided into 9, 10,and 11 degrees. Following, the text type and color were black ball-shaped. This research also divided the background into eight components from light to dark which were 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, 40%, and 45% in CMYK. 48 elderly people were divided into four groups. It recorded the subjective assessment and the error times when elderly people read the text on the package. The results were showed as below.
(1) Matte PP Coating: There was good legibility for elderly people when the texts were used 11 degrees and background color were 10%, 15% and 20%.
(2) Varnish Coating: The best legibility for elderly people is preceding 10 degrees text
without the background color of 35% and 40%. The reading and subjective evaluation were highly recognized.
(3) Poly Propylene Coating: There was an increase towards the legibility when the use of 11 degrees text and background color of 10%.
(4) Ultra Violet Coating: There was a good legibility for elderly people when the texts
were 11 degrees and background color were 20%.
In summary, the Varnish Coating has the least error rate and the best subjective evaluation. Larger text-degree effects better legibility. As for the background color, it relies on the surface condition, but basically, colors that are closer to white are better.
