In recent years. The Cu-based catalysts have been applied in the steam reforming of methanol extensively. In order to obtain the high dispersion and the surface area of copper, the Cu/CeO2 catalysts were prepared by the polyol method in this study. The prepared catalysts were characterized by means of BET, XRD, TPR. The steam reforming of methanol is carried out in the fixed-bed reactor by feeding the water and methanol at proper molar ratio. The catalysts were reduced with hydrogen prior to the reaction. The catalytic activity and catalytic characteristics of Cu/CeO2 catalysts were compared with those of Cu-Zn/Al2O3 catalysts. Experimental result showed that the activity of Cu/CeO2 catalysts was better than that of Cu-Zn/Al2O3 catalysts. The conversion of 99.4% was reached and hydrogen concentration of 83.2% was reached at reaction temperature of 350℃ by using Cu/CeO2 catalyst with Cu contain of 18.31%.
