Thesis Abstract
Hsi Muren, a gifted poet, author and artist, becomes wellknown at 38 years old with the publication of her collection of poetry “Thyme flower”. Until 2005 she has given 20 personal painting exhibitions and 12 join exhibitions. Her works consist of volumes of poetry, prose, paintings and comments on paintings, of which about 47 are published in Taiwan.
This Thesis is made up of six chapters:
Chapter One: Introduction
The first chapter gives the reader an overall view of the motive and approach of this study.
Chapter Two: The life of Hsi Muren and factors conditioning her inspirations
This chapter comprises a description of Hsi Muren’s childhood in the chaos of war in China and her final settling down in Taiwan at about 11 years old. She pursued her education in arts in Europe and graduated with first grade from the Academic Royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles. The warm and profusion of love she received from her family and her husband have added to the latent energy of her creations in all the three fields of poetry, prose and paintings.
Chapter Three: The love for her homeland in Hsi Muren’s works
As Hsi Muren stepped on her homeland, Mongolia, for the first time, the passionate love for her homeland has evoked her enthusiasm and firm resolution to devote her writings to the nomadic culture.
Chapter Four: The beauty of the language in Hsi Muren’s works
The rhetoric features and the characteristics of the language in Hsi Muren’s works as well as the beauty of her paintings are analysed, in order to explain the reasons for her great influences in Taiwan.
Chapter Five: The philosophical aspect of Hsi Muren’s works
Under this chapter the aesthetic and meditative aspects as well as the truthful and gentle characteristics of Hsi Muren’s works are analysed.
Chapter Six: Conclusion
This chapter summarizes the above observations.
In the Appendix are included a bibliography of Hsi Muren’s works, a chronicle of Hsi Muren’s life, a record of “The process of gaining independency by Mongolia” by the Republic of China and a hand painting on “a sketch map of Mongolia cultural territory” by Hsi Muren.
