Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the current situation of the teacher curriculum leadership in elementary schools, and discover the influential factors of implementing teacher curriculum leadership for school leaders, teacher education institutions, and educational administrators as references.
The researcher has conducted surveys through questionnaires to collect information of current situation and influential factors of teacher curriculum leadership in elementary schools. The researcher also discussed feasible strategies for facilitating teacher curriculum leadership through interviews with the practitioners.
Based on the data collected, this study comes to the following conclusion:
1. On the aspect of implementing curriculum leadership, four areas stand out as follows: “ Have clear goals and Adapt to changes”,” “Nurture professional development to improve quality.”, “Motivate staff to carry out educational reform”, and “Support practice through guided development”.
2. Gender, age, levels of education, years taught, and position taken are found as significant factors in affecting the implementation of teacher curriculum leadership in elementary schools.
3. The curriculum leader’s personality scores highest on the degree of awareness for implementing teacher curriculum leadership in elementary schools.
4. Gender, levels of education, position taken, and school size are found as significant factors in affecting the implementation of teacher curriculum leadership in elementary schools.
5. “Collaborate to solve problems”, “ Have clear goals and Adapt to changes”, “Nurture professional development to improve quality”, and “Support practice through guided development” are found as significant factors in influencing the implementation of teacher curriculum leadership .
6. Teacher curriculum leaders are most concerned about the task of curriculum design and teaching practice.
7. The development of teacher curriculum leadership should begin with validating in-service training, improving organization culture, developing platform for peer sharing, valuing empowerment, integrating resources, and establishing realistic evaluation system.
