At the same time, some breakthrough improvements on stability have been made as well. This newly developed Stand-up wheelchair may be a brand new choice for wheelchair users. First of all, this thesis adopts mechanism synthesis to establish its design concept under the consideration of its design constraints. Through the processes of generalization and specialization, the specialized kinematics chain is sorted out as the best for the demand of stand-up and sitting of the wheelchair. It is then transferred as the atlas of specialized chains, and finally returns to a mechanical device. In addition, the computer aid program, Pro/Engineer Wildfire 2.0, proceeds with dimensional synthesis to build up the 3D model; while the Mechanism instruction of Pro/Assembly is applied to simulate the movements of subject wheelchair in order to ensure no interferes are involved or occurred. Furthermore, COSMOSDesignSTAR 4.5 is used to analyze stress, stain, and displacement, so as to confirm the strength of the wheelchair. Last but not least, the physical mock-up of the wheelchair is made to testify this new design of stand-up wheelchair. With completion of all the processes mentioned above, this new stand-up wheelchair acquires qualities of low cost, simply-constructed, and precise in movement.
