Through visual programming environment, a user can operate directly on graphical user interface and get immediate feedback from the program. This reduces the difficulty in learning programming. In the past, design of report generation tools was mostly based on wizards. Recently, there are researches propose the use of table operations and report structure trees to simplify report generation. However, these tools do not allow users to define their own customized operations. This thesis proposes a visual table presentation language for report generation based on table operations. With the aid of visual table presentation language, a user can define new table operations by using existing ones. Thus both the functionality and productivity of the report generation system are enhanced.
