It’s also the main reason that the products life cycle shorten. If the manufacturers want to satisfy consumers' preference immediately, then it should strengthen itself excellent new product development(NPD)capability than competitors, innovate and shorten the launch time of products constantly. If the manufacturers want to improve their new products development capability, depending on NPD team members’ interaction in the development, how to integrate team members’ professional technique and knowledge through various kinds of channels effectively, or strengthen communication efficiency of team, creating the best synergy to contribute to the product development, and advance the product performance.
According about, this research based on the knowledge view and explored the relationship between the knowledge integration capability of the new product development team and the new product performance of the Taiwanese manufacturers. Compare to the past literature, this research argued that organizational context factors would influence the knowledge integration capability of the new product development team, and the past literature is short in this topic. Therefore, this research attempts to fill up this gap, discussing the relationship between the organizational context, the knowledge integration capability of the new product development team, and the new product development performance.
This research regards the project of product development as the case analysis unit, focusing on the manufacturers having more completed new product development process and new product development team in the information and communication industry for research object. Adopting the case study research method, this research carried on the collection and analysis of data, then proposed the research propositions as the following:
Among the knowledge integration capability of the new product development team and the new product development performance, the knowledge scope and knowledge elasticity of the team have positive influence to the product innovation; goal definitude of the team positively affect the product quality; involvement of the team also have positive relationship to the product cost; goal definitude, involvement and communication of the team have positive effect to the product development speed.
Among the organizational context and the knowledge integration ability of the product development team, the organizational structure of decentralization positively affect goal definitude of the team; the high degree commitment of the top management having positive influence to the knowledge scope, goal definitude, involvement and communication of the team; and if corporate culture stressing diversity of talent and placing importance on teamwork, it must have particular influence on the knowledge scope and communication of the team.
