PDA and tablet PC are breakthrough of using pen-input device. It is necessary to study the performance of pen-input compared with other input devices. In this study, we investigate the influence of number of object, background character of screen, different input device and personality to the operation performance. Three experiments are taken and study. In the experiment one, we study the influence of number and polarity of object to the operation performance of tablet PC. In the experiment two, we study the influence of color and polarity of object to the operation performance of tablet PC. In the experiment three, we study the influence of input device and A/B type behavior to the operation performance of tablet PC. We use finish time, error number, the variation of critical flicker fusion frequency (CFF), and the subjective visual fatigue as dependent variable in these experiments. After analyzing the experiment data with the methods of statistics, the results show as below: 1.The less number of object result in better operation performance and low visual fatigue. 2.In screen background character, utilize the cathode result in better visual performance and low visual fatigue for pen-input device. The higher of contrast in object color result in better visual performance and low visual fatigue for pen-input device. 3.For the performance of input device to tablet PC, mouse is better than electronic pen and touch pad. 4.The A/B type behavior has significant influence to the complete time of mouse input.
