In order to keep the production line working or suffer 24-hour service, the industry has to depend on shifts. One of the typical sample is the hospital. Nursing staff are the major roles of the shift work. Because of the specialty of the shift work, it has an influence on career development and marital satisfaction. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between career development and marital satisfaction of the married shift nursing staff in Kaohsiung and Pingtung Area. The study utilized purpose sampling and structural questionnaire .The married shift nursing staff of the region hospitals in Kaohsiung and Pingtung Area are the object of the study. The valid samples are 486. Credibility and validity tests, one-way ANOVA, multiple regression are used for data analysis. The major conclusions of this study are as follows: (1) The career development of married shift nursing staff self-esteem is above-average degree. (2) The marital satisfaction of married shift nursing staff self-esteem is above-average degree. (3) There is significant difference in career development of married shift nursing staff in different personal background factors like educational level, seniority of work, department of nursing, marriage age, number of children, total month income of the family, and shift schedule at present. (4) There is significant difference in marital satisfaction of married shift nursing staff in different personal background factors like age, educational level, hospital status, marriage age, number of children, total month income of the family, and shift schedule at present. (5) The correlation of career development and marital satisfaction is positive. According to the conclusions of the study, we have some suggestions for medical staff, their families, hospitals and the society to help married shift nursing staff increasing their career development and marital satisfaction.
