Local environment is not the only the primary condition that human beings rely on living, but also the media that the mankind and nature carry on spirit and thought interaction, too. Different local environments determine the generation's prosperity. Mankind takes different production and life style, and has caused various folkways and customs, greater discrepancy exists too. Peasants rely on ploughing whereas the fisherman depend on fishing. An idiom says: make use of local resources. The past documents have regarded the house of Penghu mainland as the Penghu house and neglected the difference of cognition; Investigation discovers that Hua-Zhai traditional house and other Penghu house have a certain difference in the material and structure. Therefore, this research will be done through field investigation and local interview and attempts to point out the difference from the typical case of Penghu house, including the folk custom name of the local material. How to gather? Where is it used? And what kind of characteristics are there in structures? In addition, analyze the material and structure of the traditional entity of house of Hua-Zhai, and render the discrepancy between the local house and other Penghu house. We hope that we’ll have a better understanding for mandkind adopting different production and life style, the regional building derived and the dialogue between Hua-Zhai residents and nature. So, the main method of this research is to investigate “the structure of house” and “constructing materials” and will be accompanied with the interview of the local bricklayers and Hua-Zhai sagacious elder. As regards the structure of the house, through proper picture and words, we attempt to classify and discuss ' the house types '. Though such classification, often considered as the abstruse knowledge of the academic research, or is mistakenly thought the ' simplify ' of realistic state which is impractical. But we hope through categorizing the types, we can figure out these seemed average quality and architectural style duplicated house. And also, we attempt to find out the traits of local house through the appearance and the space. Hua-Zhai village basically consists of a group of austere house. They are constructed in traditional house space and a certain Fujian type building logic. However, to scrutinize the each house, we still can find trivial discrepancies. It varies from the demand, the size of land, the population and the economical conditions. Those elements will be presented among the space size, quantity, the size of jian-zhai, and the form or the property of the space. It is also presented through the constructing material of wall in wai-shi-bi, zhuan-ping, slant roof, the settlement of nei-ting and wai-ting, the affiliated facilities arrangement and the room form. For the constructing materials, we discover that the residents build with the local resource. Through unique wall elevation and different constructing ways, it constitutes a local unique feature and forms a ecological building village. This chapter commences with the constructing material because the uniqueness of this house derive from the uniqueness of using material. Therefore, with the different materials and technology, the Hua-Zhai constructing materials and ways evolve. During the process of evolution, village demonstrates a different feature in that periods, even more meaning and historical value. To observe the landscape of Hua-Zhai, these local materials are utilized in constructing house from the coral reef in the seashore to black stone on the mountain. By this way, humanity and natural environment will be combined. In addition, the building material of Han dynasty was delivered from China to Taiwan through the exchange of the agricultural and fishing production and the wealth accumulation. Consequently, constructing material like red brick, red tile, and timber are mixed with the local material. On one hand, we can recognize the trade relationship between China and Taiwan. On the other hand, the external constructing material has caused the evolution of house form. In general, Hua-Zhai village differs from the exquisite mansion, therefore we are not able to emphasize. The particular space, material, structure are unexitent in other places. In fact, Hua-Zhai village merely presents a austere aesthetic feeling of collective, a conventional village in Fujian border area. Compared to Wang-an and Shui-an, even the main island of Penghu, Hua-Zhai is a village that possesses more conventional houses and a intact traditional village space.
